How to Clean Invisalign Aligners

One of the great things about Invisalign aligners is that they can be removed, meaning you can eat and drink whatever you want. This also means they are really simple to clean, and don’t need any specialist equipment. Just follow our simple guide, and your aligners will stay in tip-top condition.

Take out the aligner

Remove the Invisalign aligners from your mouth according to the instructions given to you by the dentist. Then rinse it under a tap with tepid water (water that’s not too hot, but not too cold!).

Give it a good brush

Use a toothbrush and a generous amount of toothpaste, and brush the aligner using small circular motions. Clean thoroughly to remove any food particles. Afterwards, rinse it again in tepid water.

Brush and floss your teeth

Brush your teeth thoroughly and then floss to make sure you get rid of all food particles and bacteria. Keeping your teeth clean will help keep your Invisalign aligners clean.

Check your aligner doesn’t have calcium build-up

Like teeth, Invisalign aligners are prone to tartar build-up. Calcium build-up appears as a cloudy white film that is hard to remove with a toothbrush.

Soak in a brace cleaning solution if needed

If your aligner has any calcium build-up present, soak in a specialist brace cleaning solution. This should be available from your dentist. Do NOT use mouthwash to clean your aligner, as it may contain unsafe chemicals and coloured pigments.

Invisalign braces need to be cleaned twice a day; the best time to clean them is when you brush your teeth. Good dental hygiene and looking after your aligners are the best ways to ensure you achieve the results you deserve.
